For a display shown at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, Volkswagen reimagined the history of Volkswagen and the evolution of the brand’s design using 20,000 LEGO bricks. The display was 2 feet by 3.5 feet and includes a classic Volkswagen Microbus as well as the brand-new Volkswagen Atlas, coming to the lineup for the 2018 model year.
The Volkswagen LEGO Journey display was set up against a backdrop that gradually transitions from a cityscape to more rural scenery, showing that there’s nowhere you can’t take your Volkswagen. The LEGO Microbus is a perfect representation of the original bus, using blue and white LEGO bricks to replicate the two-tone exterior. It also keeps the Microbus’ rounded headlamps, silver hubcaps and side mirrors, a VW badge, and the distinctive V-shaped front fascia design.
The LEGO brick Atlas is made up of all white LEGOs and shows the utility of the vehicle, highlighting its seating for seven passengers and other utility features, plus the characteristic grille, black rims, Volkswgen badges, and even a trailer hitch.

It’s official: the upcoming new SUV model from Volkswagen will be named the Atlas. VW officially unveiled the all-new Volkswagen Atlas SUV at the Santa Monica Pier in California at the end of October. This new SUV will be built right here in Tennessee and is designed specifically for the American market.
The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas will have three rows of seating for up to seven passengers and will come with a full suite of available driver assist features. Buyers will be able to choose between two engine options: a turbocharged four-cylinder and a more powerful V6.
“This is the biggest and boldest Volkswagen we have ever built in the United States, delivering the distinctive design and craftsmanship we’re known for, now with room for seven,” said Hinrich J. Woebcken, CEO of the North America Region for Volkswagen. “The Atlas marks a brand new journey for Volkswagen to enter into the heart of the American market.”
Inside, passengers will find a spacious, comfortable, high-tech environment. With both the second and third tow seats folded, the Atlas offers up to 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space. The seats—even the third row–are supportive and comfortable for those young and old. And, with a customizable Volkswagen Digital Cockpit and nine available driver assist features, it is a modern SUV for the modern American family.
Most drivers tend to love the incredibly expensive, insanely powerful, sleekly designed supercars, but what if we told you that a VW Golf could outrun them? If you’ve already laughed at the mere thought of that happening, we have a video that you need to watch. YouTuber Gumbal took a standard Golf and switched out the engine to create the ultimate VW Golf drag car.
The VW Golf drag car had its standard four-cylinder engine switched out for a 2.9-liter turbocharged VR6 that pumps out a whopping 600 hp. All that power is sent directly through the front wheels.
In the video, the VW Golf takes on a Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG. In the first quarter-mile drag race, the Golf posts a time of 12.3 seconds compared to theML63 AMG’s 13.63 seconds.
Throughout the four minute video, the Golf outruns all of its competitors, including an Audi R8 with a massive V10 engine under its hood.
Toward the end of the video, the VW Golf drag car takes on a Dodge Challenger SRT, a more affordable model for most drivers. The old Golf easily outpaces the muscle car without breaking a sweat.
Volkswagen may be a German brand, but you can bet that it excels when it comes to operating in America. In fact, Volkswagen recently announced its intention to expand its American operations in a big way.
$6.8 million of that commitment will go toward the completion of a Volkswagen distribution center in Rocklin, California. This facility will construct and distribute vehicles to 94 dealerships across the West Coast.
The remaining $4.5 million will be allocated to the creation of a brand-new service training center, set to be located nearby in Eastvale, California.

With the implementation of these two new VW distribution and training centers, Volkswagen has ensured that the very best of its North American specialists and vehicles will be headed to the California area!
A new Volkswagen concept SUV will debut at the Beijing Auto Show taking place in China. This mysterious model, designed to compete with premium SUVs in the segment, is most likely the new version of the Touareg. Not many details have been released yet, but the concept SUV will be a plug-in hybrid with an output of 376 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. It can go from zero to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds and has a maximum speed of 139 mph.
The new Touareg will also have an all-electric range of 31 miles, making it a leader in the PHEV segment and qualifying it for China’s New Energy Vehicle incentive program. The interior is said to be spacious and lounge-like, with a digitalized dashboard and the latest technologies that will let it compete in the premium segment.
The Touareg will probably debut sometime in the 2018 model year. Volkswagen also hinted that it will also introduce a mid-size coupe at the Beijing Auto Show.
The Volkswagen T-Cross concept debuted recently at the Geneva Auto Show. The T-Cross is a truly unique-looking vehicle. After all, it’s a convertible, subcompact crossover. How cool is that?
The efficiency of the T-Cross concept makes it even cooler. Its 1.0-liter gas engine will get you 47 mpg. Considering the size of its 10.6-gallon tank, that means a 500-mile range.
Volkswagen is also doing some interesting things with the interior of the T-Cross. There are very few physical controls. This gives the cockpit an alluringly “un-busy” look. Controls inevitably demand your attention, so by VW digitizing almost everything, it keeps the controls out of sight so you focus on enjoying the drive.
Switzerland may be a historically neutral country but Volkswagen sure made it hard to straddle the fence when it comes to this concept. You can’t help but be on its side. There’s just too much to love! And it looks like this is a concept that may actually go into production.
Volkswagens should never be underestimated, especially concerning their safety. And the brand proved this when the 2016 Passat was named IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus.
On the 2016 Passat, there’s new front and rear styling that has given it that top safety score. The mid-sized sedan received the top score of “good” across all areas of testing. These wins include the small front overlap crash, the most difficult testing area, as well as an advanced rating for front crash prevention.
The Passat earned the important “plus” by receiving good ratings in all crash tests as well as superior rating for front crash prevention. The new Passat’s front crash prevention system is to thank for these wins. Front Assist, a forward collision warning system with automatic emergency braking, is standard on SE models and above.
The Passat isn’t the only Volkswagon on the list of vehicle to the Top Safety Pick Plus List. It joins the 2016 Golf, Golf SportWagon, Golf GTI and Jetta. Clearly, Volkswagons are proving that they are made to be safe and reliable.
The VW electric Microbus, called BUDD-e, has a potential range of up to 373 miles on one charge and could charge up to 80% in as little as 15 minutes. This range is the best the auto industry has had to offer in EVs so far, even better than Tesla vehicles.
BUDD-e is built on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Toolkit, which is a method of building electric cars that keeps the motors and battery as close to the very front and back of the car as possible, leaving more space for passengers and cargo inside the car.
The design of the Microbus is just as interesting as the inside parts, with a snappy design reminiscent of the classic Volkswagen bus and a futuristic interior with integrated infotainment systems.
Volkswagen has invested in some innovative safety technologies to make sure you’re always safe and sound behind the wheel. Most new models feature active and passive systems, and you have the option to upgrade to the latest high-tech components on the market when you buy Volkswagen.
According to Volkswagen, some of the most recent and advanced Volkswagen safety technologies are Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Area View, Blind Spot Sensor, and City Emergency Braking among others.
Adaptive Cruise Control automatically adjusts your speed to the vehicle in front of you and keeps the distance you set.
Area View uses monitors to monitor spaces around you, a technology that is especially handy in tight areas.
Blind Spot Sensor uses sensors to make backing out of parking spots and changing lanes safer by monitoring areas you can’t see as well.
Finally, City Emergency Braking automatically applies the brakes as you approach obstacles, reducing damage or avoiding accidents in general.
Other innovative safety systems include the Driver Alert System, Emergency Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist, Park Assist, Park Pilot, Light Assist System, Multi Collision Brake, and Road Works Assistant to name a few.
Despite the violent weather affecting the track and the drivers, Speed’s third place win earned enough points to secure the Volkswagen Andretti team’s first championship win at the GRC after only two years participating in the race.
Scott Speed had a rocky season, dropping to ninth in the rankings at one point before climbing back up to win the championship. Speed made at least third place in nearly every race of 2015, save for a seventh-place finish in Washington.
In 2014, Speed was the only driver to make all ten main events, so it’s no surprise he performed exceptionally in the 2015 season. Speed came into the championship race with a 36-point lead over the other competitors, and though he careened into a tire barrier at one point and dropped to fourth place, he managed to come back and secure the win.
