Volkswagen is looking to meet the demands of drivers needing a capable, stylish, and smart five-row crossover with plans in the works to launch a smaller version of the popular Atlas SUV. Earlier this year at the 2018 New York International Auto Show, VW previewed what this vehicle might look like with the Atlas Cross Sport concept, a near-production version of the vehicle that will be built in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2019.
The Atlas Cross Sport Concept holds modern design and innovation at its heart. This suave, sporty new vehicle is a plug-in hybrid, boasting a 3.6-liter V6 FSI® engine that delivers 276 horsepower and electric motors mounted on the front and rear axle. This powertrain is expected to deliver 335 horsepower and achieve 0-60 mph in a mere 5.4 seconds, as well as an all-electric driving range of up to 26 miles.
Boasting a coupe-like profile with short overhangs and a low stance, the Atlas Cross Sport concept is sleek and stylish. It boasts LED headlights that connect across the grille’s crossbars, which illuminate to act as LED Daytime Running Lights. On the inside, the Atlas Cross Sport concept sports a 12.3-inch Volkswagen Digital Cockpit and a high-mounted 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with configurable layout.
If the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport concept is accurate to the final product, we’ll all be in for a treat when the production version arrives sometime within the next two years. To see the best of what Volkswagen has to offer in the meantime, stop into Gossett VW Germantown for a test drive.
