Volkswagen Atlas Earns Best Three-Row SUV for Families Award from Edmunds

From the food you eat to the home you make together, you only want the best for your family. A reliable and intelligent family vehicle is a big part of that equation, and with so many on the market to choose from, you may feel at a loss for narrowing down your choices. Fortunately, the experts at Parents and Edmunds have made your work a little easier by naming the new Volkswagen Atlas its Best Three-Row SUV for families in their 10 Best Family Cars for 2018 Awards.

“We are so proud to be named one of the 10 best cars for families by Parents magazine and Edmunds,” said Derrick Hatami, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Volkswagen of America, Inc. “The 2018 Atlas was designed and assembled in America specifically with American families in mind. Three rows of highly configurable seating with the latest tech features and Volkswagen’s trademark style and driving dynamics is definitely a winning combination.”

Among the biggest factors considered by Edmunds and Parents in determining the 10 Best Family Cars for 2018 Award-winners is safety. Only vehicles that have earned top scores from both the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety are considered in the running. The Atlas got a leg up on the pack with its exceptional third-row legroom, People First Warranty, and steering that Dan Edmunds of Edmunds says helps the Atlas drive like a much smaller vehicle.

If you want nimble handling, superlative safety, and no shortage of style, look no further than the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas — the superior choice for your family, available at Gossett VW Germantown.

History of the Volkswagen Beetle

Volkswagen Beetle

As one of the longest-used nameplates in automotive history, the history of the Volkswagen Beetle is long and undeniably interesting. Development of the little “Bug” began in Germany in 1934, with the first cars coming out of production in 1938.

However, after a short production run, it had to stop due to wartime activities. The Beetle went back into production in Europe in 1946 to provide transportation for Allied troops, and after that, production gradually grew and grew until the one-millionth Type 1 model was produced in 1955.

In the early 1950s, the Beetle made its way to the United States and its popularity exploded over the next two decades. In fact, on February 17, 1972, Beetle number 15,007,034 was produced, setting a new record for the most-produced vehicle model. Sales eventually ceased in the U.S. in 1979 and production of the Type 1 ended in 2003.

In 1997, Volkswagen introduced what was called the New Beetle. It had a front engine, but its exterior styling paid homage to the original. The Beetle went through another redesign for the 2011 model year and got a slightly lower profile. This is the current model of the Beetle.

2018 Volkswagen Atlas Review

2018 Volkswagen Atlas

The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas is a family-sized SUV designed for American drivers day after day. The three-row model features a powerful engine, spacious interior, and plenty of features designed for family drivers. Consumer Reports took the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas SUV for a test drive and the review speaks volumes, so here’s a quick summary from us here at Gossett VW of Germantown!

The Volkswagen Atlas is designed to compete with heavyweights like the Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Pilot. It not only has everything it needs to compete with them, but it surpasses comparable competitors with relative ease.

Under the hood lies a 3.6-liter V6 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers 276 hp. Front-wheel drive comes standard, but drivers can upgrade to all-wheel drive instead.

The Volkswagen Atlas features an interior designed to please. Large seats offer premium comfort, with an excellent driving position to boot. The latest model features seating for up to seven passengers. Drivers can simply fold down the second- and third-row seats to open up a massive 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space.

As for technology, the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas passes with flying colors. The 6.5- and 8-inch touchscreen systems offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Drivers can essentially bypass updating a full infotainment system and sync their compatible smartphones instead.

Volkswagen Warranty for Tiguan and Atlas Wows Auto World

2018 Atlas with Volkswagen Warranty

Volkswagen recently announced that for the 2018 Tiguan and Atlas models, it will include a bumper-to-bumper warranty for 6 years or 72,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty is a big change from the Tiguan’s former 3-year or 36,000-mile warranty and is one of the best bumper-to-bumper warranties in the auto industry.

The other great thing about the VW warranty is that it’s fully transferrable, which most other automakers don’t offer. “Fully transferrable” means that the warranty stays on the vehicle even if it’s sold and bought by another customer, and they’ll still have until the 72,000 miles or 6 years is up. Other companies, like Hyundai, slash the warranty on used cars.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is totally redesigned for the 2018 model year with new looks and better features, and the all-new Atlas is a full-size SUV sure to impress American families. Both these vehicles have even more appeal with the new 6-year warranty, which VW officials say will help cut ownership costs and make buyers more confident in their decision to buy Volkswagen.

Most drivers tend to love the incredibly expensive, insanely powerful, sleekly designed supercars, but what if we told you that a VW Golf could outrun them? If you’ve already laughed at the mere thought of that happening, we have a video that you need to watch. YouTuber Gumbal took a standard Golf and switched out the engine to create the ultimate VW Golf drag car.

The VW Golf drag car had its standard four-cylinder engine switched out for a 2.9-liter turbocharged VR6 that pumps out a whopping 600 hp. All that power is sent directly through the front wheels.

In the video, the VW Golf takes on a Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG. In the first quarter-mile drag race, the Golf posts a time of 12.3 seconds compared to theML63 AMG’s 13.63 seconds.

Throughout the four minute video, the Golf outruns all of its competitors, including an Audi R8 with a massive V10 engine under its hood.

Toward the end of the video, the VW Golf drag car takes on a Dodge Challenger SRT, a more affordable model for most drivers. The old Golf easily outpaces the muscle car without breaking a sweat.

Here at Gossett VW Germantown, we’d be pumped to drive such an incredible VW Golf!
