Pickup trucks are all the rage these days, but it’s been quite some time since Volkswagen has offered on in the United States. The Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak Concept suggests that this may one day no longer be the case, teasing a dual-cab, short-bed pickup truck that is exceptionally stylish and keeping with VW’s unique flair for the dramatic.
The Atlas Tanoak Concept, which debuted earlier this year in New York, is powered by a burly 276-horsepower FSI® gasoline engine and rides on 4MOTION® all-wheel drive. It’s underpinned by VW’s versatile MQB architecture, showing off what the platform that supports the Atlas can do when put to the test.
With nearly 2 inches of additional ground clearance, a 214.1-inch length, and 128.3-inch wheelbase, the Atlas Tanoak is quite different in proportion from the Atlas SUV. It’s also utterly unlike any other truck on the market in terms of its look—specifically, it’s notable for its LED headlights and integrated LED-lit grille, as well as its tailgate-encompassing LED taillamps. Finishing off the Atlas Tanoak Concept’s handsome presentation is a smart Red Earth exterior hue.
Volkswagen is staying mum as to whether the Atlas Tanoak Concept will inspire a production version down the line. If we had our way, that bad boy would be at Gossett VW Germantown tomorrow, so here’s hoping VW makes it happen!
The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas is a family-sized SUV designed for American drivers day after day. The three-row model features a powerful engine, spacious interior, and plenty of features designed for family drivers. Consumer Reports took the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas SUV for a test drive and the review speaks volumes, so here’s a quick summary from us here at Gossett VW of Germantown!
The Volkswagen Atlas is designed to compete with heavyweights like the Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Pilot. It not only has everything it needs to compete with them, but it surpasses comparable competitors with relative ease.
Under the hood lies a 3.6-liter V6 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers 276 hp. Front-wheel drive comes standard, but drivers can upgrade to all-wheel drive instead.
The Volkswagen Atlas features an interior designed to please. Large seats offer premium comfort, with an excellent driving position to boot. The latest model features seating for up to seven passengers. Drivers can simply fold down the second- and third-row seats to open up a massive 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space.
As for technology, the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas passes with flying colors. The 6.5- and 8-inch touchscreen systems offer Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility. Drivers can essentially bypass updating a full infotainment system and sync their compatible smartphones instead.
Volkswagen recently announced that for the 2018 Tiguan and Atlas models, it will include a bumper-to-bumper warranty for 6 years or 72,000 miles, whichever comes first. The warranty is a big change from the Tiguan’s former 3-year or 36,000-mile warranty and is one of the best bumper-to-bumper warranties in the auto industry.
The other great thing about the VW warranty is that it’s fully transferrable, which most other automakers don’t offer. “Fully transferrable” means that the warranty stays on the vehicle even if it’s sold and bought by another customer, and they’ll still have until the 72,000 miles or 6 years is up. Other companies, like Hyundai, slash the warranty on used cars.
The Volkswagen Tiguan is totally redesigned for the 2018 model year with new looks and better features, and the all-new Atlas is a full-size SUV sure to impress American families. Both these vehicles have even more appeal with the new 6-year warranty, which VW officials say will help cut ownership costs and make buyers more confident in their decision to buy Volkswagen.

For a display shown at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, Volkswagen reimagined the history of Volkswagen and the evolution of the brand’s design using 20,000 LEGO bricks. The display was 2 feet by 3.5 feet and includes a classic Volkswagen Microbus as well as the brand-new Volkswagen Atlas, coming to the lineup for the 2018 model year.
The Volkswagen LEGO Journey display was set up against a backdrop that gradually transitions from a cityscape to more rural scenery, showing that there’s nowhere you can’t take your Volkswagen. The LEGO Microbus is a perfect representation of the original bus, using blue and white LEGO bricks to replicate the two-tone exterior. It also keeps the Microbus’ rounded headlamps, silver hubcaps and side mirrors, a VW badge, and the distinctive V-shaped front fascia design.
The LEGO brick Atlas is made up of all white LEGOs and shows the utility of the vehicle, highlighting its seating for seven passengers and other utility features, plus the characteristic grille, black rims, Volkswgen badges, and even a trailer hitch.
