The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas is a family-sized SUV designed for American drivers day after day. The Volkswagen Atlas is designed to compete with heavyweights like the Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Pilot. It not only has everything it needs to compete with them, but it surpasses comparable competitors with relative ease.
Under the hood lies a 3.6-liter V6 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers 276 hp. Front-wheel drive comes standard, but drivers can upgrade to all-wheel drive instead.
The Volkswagen Atlas features an interior designed to please. Large seats offer premium comfort, with an excellent driving position to boot. The latest model features seating for up to seven passengers. Drivers can simply fold down the second- and third-row seats to open up a massive 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space.
As for technology, the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas passes with flying colors. The 6.5- and 8-inch touchscreen systems offer Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility. Drivers can essentially bypass updating a full infotainment system and sync their compatible smartphones instead.
It’s official: the upcoming new SUV model from Volkswagen will be named the Atlas. VW officially unveiled the all-new Volkswagen Atlas SUV at the Santa Monica Pier in California at the end of October. This new SUV will be built right here in Tennessee and is designed specifically for the American market.
The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas will have three rows of seating for up to seven passengers and will come with a full suite of available driver assist features. Buyers will be able to choose between two engine options: a turbocharged four-cylinder and a more powerful V6.
“This is the biggest and boldest Volkswagen we have ever built in the United States, delivering the distinctive design and craftsmanship we’re known for, now with room for seven,” said Hinrich J. Woebcken, CEO of the North America Region for Volkswagen. “The Atlas marks a brand new journey for Volkswagen to enter into the heart of the American market.”
Inside, passengers will find a spacious, comfortable, high-tech environment. With both the second and third tow seats folded, the Atlas offers up to 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space. The seats—even the third row–are supportive and comfortable for those young and old. And, with a customizable Volkswagen Digital Cockpit and nine available driver assist features, it is a modern SUV for the modern American family.
The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas will be coming to Gossett VW Germantown in the spring of 2017.
A new Volkswagen concept SUV will debut at the Beijing Auto Show taking place in China. This mysterious model, designed to compete with premium SUVs in the segment, is most likely the new version of the Touareg. Not many details have been released yet, but the concept SUV will be a plug-in hybrid with an output of 376 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. It can go from zero to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds and has a maximum speed of 139 mph.
The new Touareg will also have an all-electric range of 31 miles, making it a leader in the PHEV segment and qualifying it for China’s New Energy Vehicle incentive program. The interior is said to be spacious and lounge-like, with a digitalized dashboard and the latest technologies that will let it compete in the premium segment.
The Touareg will probably debut sometime in the 2018 model year. Volkswagen also hinted that it will also introduce a mid-size coupe at the Beijing Auto Show.
The Volkswagen Golf R has always been a standout in versatility and style. But the 2016 Golf R has finally been recognized for its excellence. Automobile has named the Golf R to its 2016 list of All-Stars.

The latest Golf R is making strides from its previous models. It’s the most powerful version of the Golf yet, redefining the hatchback category. There’s space for five adults and significantly more trunk space than most sedans have. It boasts an amazing 292 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque without compromising its fuel economy with an estimated 31 highway mpg.

The test drive can make or break your decision to buy a car, especially if it’s used. Strange noises, rough handling—if you notice anything that feels off, it’s probably best to keep looking. Here are some things to keep an eye out for when test driving a car.
First, have the salesman demonstrate the vehicle’s features for you, partly to see what the car can do and partly to make sure everything is working right (again, this is especially important with used cars). Make sure you’re test driving the car you want with the engine and transmission you want!
Check under the hood and look at the spare tire, making sure everything is easily accessible; then make sure the car is a good fit for you. Sit in it, get in and out of it to make sure it’s comfortable, and check the cargo space so you know there’s enough room for things you regularly transport back and forth.
Don’t listen to the radio when you’re test driving to ensure you can hear any noises, and really test the car. Take it over bumps so you can make sure the shocks work, for instance.
The Consumer Electronics Show took place earlier this month from January 6th to 9th in Las Vegas, Nevada, during which Volkswagen announced its new all-electric Microbus concept, set to go on sale in 2017.
The VW electric Microbus, called BUDD-e, has a potential range of up to 373 miles on one charge and could charge up to 80% in as little as 15 minutes. This range is the best the auto industry has had to offer in EVs so far, even better than Tesla vehicles.
BUDD-e is built on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Toolkit, which is a method of building electric cars that keeps the motors and battery as close to the very front and back of the car as possible, leaving more space for passengers and cargo inside the car.
The design of the Microbus is just as interesting as the inside parts, with a snappy design reminiscent of the classic Volkswagen bus and a futuristic interior with integrated infotainment systems.
